Ski holidays in Val Thorens

Located in the French Alps at a staggering 2300 metres, Val Thorens is Europe's highest village which guarantees excellent snow cover. However, this feature can also lead to freezing temperatures or total wipe-outs. Val Thorens forms part of the Three Valleys Ski Area with 600 kms of slopes and a total of 93 ski lifts, 3l chairlifts and 52 draglifts. Beginners can enjoy Val Thorens with a good selection of runs scattered throughout the resort, whilst expert skiers are challenged by the big moguls and have access to off piste in the Maurienne Valley.

Discover Val Thorens Snowpark. Spreading over 70 000m2, the Snowpark is made of tables (jumps), rails and boxes (sliding units) of different sizes. You will also find other, a bit more unusual, modules such as the hips-quarter or the Jump’ Air (shock absorbing stunt man’s mattress) which will allow you to try acrobatic figures, and it is utterly safe! You can also attend or even enrol in the several contests (freestyle competitions) organised during the winter season.

Apres Ski & Nightlife

Val Thorens is a lively apres ski and nightlife ski resort. There is a fantastic apres ski choice of bars in Val Thorens with live music and open very late. In the evening many of the bars have discos or live music with dancing and drinking until the early hours.

Val Thorens has many mountain restaurants, however some of them are a bit pricy indeed. One which offers fairly cheap and tasty meals is the Chalet la Moutiere. Other popular restaurants are the British Frog and the Roast Beef Restaurant which serves good old English grub along with a wide selection of beer. Another more traditional restaurant is the Chalet Les Sonnailes which caters in a very traditional and rustic manner.

There is a varied range of shops and Val Thorens at 1850 is the best place to go to, with its clothes, jewellery and children’s fashion stores, in addition to the small specialist shops selling regional specialties, perfumes and gifts.
