Ski holidays in Alpe d'Huez
Built above the original village of Huez, Alpe d'Huez is one of the world's top ski resorts and not without reason. The resort is part of the Grandes Rousses ski area and boasts some of the finest slopes around. Accommodation in Alpe d'Huez ranges from lodges, self-catering apartments to hotels.
The domain covers an area of 10,000 hectares which includes 250km of linked pistes extending over an altitude range of 2,200m. There are 85 cutting edge ski lifts which can transport over 94,000 skiers. The top station, Pic Blanc (3330m) in the Alpe d'Huez area, offers breath-taking views of the Alps including Mont Blanc, Mont Cervin and the Meije. The season starts early December and ends late April. As the resort is situated at an altitude of 1860 metres, you are pretty much guaranteed snow throughout the entire season, however just in case, Alpe d'Huez also has 900 snow cannons to ensure peace of mind.
Apres Ski & Night-life
This resort has one of the liveliest apres-ski scenes and boasts more than 30 restaurants and bars. Popular ones include the Zoo Music Bar and the O Bar. There are also four nightclubs if you feel like dancing the night away.
Eating out here offers good value for money, restaurants such as "The Edelweiss" offer a set menu and grill option. The comfortable and cosy Bergerie at Villard-Reculus offer rustic food at its best.
Shopping in Alpe d'Huez offers a good range of shops including ski equipment stores, numerous supermarkets as well as gift and souvenir shops.
