Ski holidays in Saalbach Hinterglemm

Situated in the region of Salzburg, Saalbach Hinterglemm is the second most popular tourist destination in Austria after the capital Vienna. There are a total of 200 kms of downhill pistes divided between 31 blue runs, 27 red runs and 13 black runs, so there are plenty of slopes to choose from. There are 52 ski lifts throughout the complex which are capable of transporting 84,867 people per hour. In the unlikely event that snow isn't forthcoming, the resort boasts 384 snow cannons to make sure that you get what you came for. The highest lift climbs up to 2100 metres and the total elevation is around 1000 metres. The season opens on 3rd December and closes on 23rd April.

About the village

Accommodation in Saalbach Hinterglemm is varied and indeed plentiful. Whether it is a self catering apartment, a ski lodge or a chic and trendy hotel, Saalbach Hinterglemm has it all.

As far as apres ski action goes, then this is up there with the best of them. The party atmosphere starts just as the last ski lifts are coming to a close (around late afternoon) in the various mountain restaurants above Saalbach. The action them moves down to the ice bars outside the various hotels.

Then finally the multitude of bars and the numerous nightspots in the pedestrianised zone keep going well into the small hours. For dancing, some of the best places to go are the Ali Bar and the Zum Turn. There are also a large number of restaurants, many of which serve excellent Austrian dishes, such as noodles or dumplings. Peter's Restaurant is famous for its succulent steaks cooked on hot stones and the Hotel Theresia serves some of the best food around, although it doesn't come cheap.The pedestrianised zone houses a good selection of shops where you can purchase anything from high fashion, to perfumes and jewellery. On top of this you have café bars and souvenir shops.
