Saas-Fee and Saastal: A Carefree, Car-Free Ski Vacation
Saas Fee and Saastal in Switzerland are the epitome of picturesque ski resorts. For starters, Saas-Fee and Saastal do not allow cars to ruin the serenity of the villages. Visitors park in a car park and either walk or take public transport into town and up to the resorts. The placid sense of the place gives an impression of earlier, simpler times. Saas-Fee is part of the Mischabel mountain chain, so there is plenty of outdoor mountain related recreation.
From the 145 km of 48 ski runs to the 15 km long slope with a vertical drop of 3.600 meters, there is plenty of skiing and snowboarding possibilities on the hillsides. Having said that, Saas-Fee and Saastal ski vacations do not stop on the slopes. The world’s highest revolving restaurant serves customers at 3.500 meters. The Geneva airport is 230 km away (just over three hours by public transfer). The summer, too, includes just as many activities, from golfing, hiking, horse riding, mini golf to fixed rope climbing routes and tennis.
SAAS-FEE AND SAASTAL ACCOMMODATION: Saas-Fee and Saastal are awash with hotels, apartments, chalets and other lodges. Many reflect an alpine texture and wooded finish that seems in tune with the natural surroundings. Saas-Fee and Saastal has, since the 1960s when skiers first started coming, kept a traditional air while serving thousands of skiers and snowboarders annually.
