Saint Moritz Engadin
Saint Moritz is one of the best known ski resorts in the world and was in fact the forerunner of Alpine Winter holidays as far back as 1864. It has also hosted the Olympic Games in 1928 and 1948 and is the home of the infamous Cresta Run. Due to its wealth of other winter activities including horse racing, cricket and polo, which all take place on the frozen lake, Saint Moritz ski holidays are always a popular choice for a winter break.
Saint Moritz is part of the Engadin Ski Area and offers 350 km of downhill skiing together with 88 individual pistes and 24 lifts which can uplift 65,000 people per hour. It's not the best place for beginners since nursery slopes are limited and only about 10% of the runs are termed "easy". In contrast, intermediate skiers should have a ball here with 70% of the immaculate runs purely for their enjoyment. Expert skiers will find plenty to challenge them, especially if they go off piste with a guide. However, the remaining 20% black runs are scattered all over the area as compared to there being an "expert's mountain" such as at Aspen. Saint Moritz is also a top destination for snowboarders and there are a choice of snowparks as well a half pipe dotted around Engadin.
