Soelden is situated approximately 100 kms from the resort of Innsbruck in the heart of the Otzal valley in the province of Tirol, Western Austria, lies the glacier known as Soelden. Ski Holidays are the main agenda, and because of this, it is a very popular ski resort. Its variety of runs makes the resort a great destination for skiers of all levels and abilities, and it has over 40 slopes that total up to over 150 kms in length. The runs are split up as follows.... There are 10 beginner or blue runs totalling 57 kms, 15 red or intermediate runs totalling 61 kms and finally there are 8 black or expert runs giving you 31 kms.

The lift and gondola system is excellent. In fact, there is a gondola at either end of town which provides access to the ski area. On top of this, there is a free bus that shuttles its way between the two gondolas. Be aware that at peak times the bus can be very crowded. One of the finest drag and chair lifts in the area transports people from 1350 metres at base, all the way to the summit at 3340 metres. The Soelden glacier is interlinked with the Obergurgl-Hochgurgl and this then opens up to form an an extra 260 kms of fresh ski paths. (you do need the appropriate pass however) For snowboarders, the glacier offers excellent facilities such as a fun park, half pipe, slides, corners jumps and much more.

About the village:

Accommodation in Soelden gets booked up quite quickly because of its popularity. If you are looking for a hotel, Soelden has its fair share of four and five start establishments as well as lesser, but equally comfortable two and three star venues. With over 10,000 beds you are bound to find something to your liking. There are plenty of bars and restaurants (over 85 in fact) offering food ranging from simple but delicious local fayre, through to exquisite fine dining establishments. The nightlife here is as you would expect from a thriving resort buzzing with people.
