Mayrhofen – Zillertal – Accessible Ski Vacations Near Innsbruck

The Mayrhofen ski resort and area is included in the Zillertal Ski Area. While families on a long ski holiday could rightfully find plenty of slopes in Mayrhofen, the Zillertal area encompasses Fugen, Finkenberg, Hippach, Kaltenbach, Zell am Ziller, Hintertux and the Hippach ski area. Skiers and snowboarders have access to Eggalm and Rastkogel, too. The gondola opened in 1995 making Penken the central local ski area. All this is only 70 km from Innsbruck. In Mayrhofen (Zillertal) there are 45 ski runs forming 136 km of total runs. The 5.5 km long Ahorn valley run drops impressive 1,300 meters. The resort begins at 630 meters and stops at 2,500 meters, which is the highest maximum altitude. Inbetween lie 40 km of blue runs (16 runs in total), 66 km of red runs (23 in total) and 30 km of black (6 in total) and 20 km of cross-country trails — all reachable by 57 ski lifts. Snowboarding in Mayrhofen is never second-rate. The Gerent Ridge is collectively known as one of the supreme places to ride, with plenty of spacious slopes at Penken and the Vans Penken Park at Hintertrett.

A new modern wi-fi equipped cable car S3 Penkenbahn started operating in December 2015 – it has the capacity of 3840 passengers per hour, a ride takes only 8 minutes and covers an elevation of 1146 meters and 2645 meters of horizontal distance.
