Ski holidays in Lech Zürs am Arlberg

Lech and Zurs Am Arlberg are two separate ski resorts that are interlinked as part of the bigger Arlberg ski domain. Though technically in the region of Vorarlberg, it boasts excellent ski conditions throughout the season. This is the number one reason why Lech Zurs Am Arlberg ski holidays are so popular.

A family friendly place, the resort is geared more towards intermediate and beginners. Out of the 122 ski runs totalling 280 kms, 139 kms are red runs, 108 kms are blue runs and the remaining 30 kms are black runs. The longest slope is a little over 5 kms whilst the highest point is a stunning 2800 metres. The Fluhen lift is one of the most modern carriers in the area and services novice skiers and snowboarders on the nursery slopes before they go on to the blue runs higher up. In total there are over 80 lifts here that are capable of moving up to 48,000 people per hour to their relevant slopes. Just a word of warning though, lift passes are limited to 14,000 per day to prevent queues and overcrowding. So you need to get in early.

About the village:

This town used to rely on dairy cattle for its main income, until the formation of the Arlberg Ski Club in 1901. Tourists have been flocking here ever since. Accommodation in Lech Zurs Am Arlberg is plentiful. In fact there are over 309 apartments, lodges and hotels. One particularly impressive hotel in Lech Zurs Am Arlberg is the magnificent "Gastof Post".

It is not as wild here as other destinations but what it does offer is a more sophisticated scene, with the "Ice Bar" being a very popular spot. Most of the apres ski activity here takes place around the hotels. Although fairly lively by late afternoon, by 8pm most guests have made their way back to their hotels for dinner and the town itself is reasonably quiet.

Lech has more award winning eateries than any other part of Austria. Most of them are located in the smart 4 and 5 star hotels. However if you are on a budget, then cheaper eating options can include pasta or pizza at the "Restaurant Italiener". Or if you fancy something a little spicy to warm you up, then "Charley's Cantina" offers a taste of Mexico for a fair price.

Shopping in Lech is chic and sophisticated with an eclectic mix of boutiques, art and craft houses and delicatessens. Most of the shops are situated on the main thoroughfare so they are easy to find.
